Sailing at Fiji
CommentsWe sail to numerous charter destinations along the 50 mile chain of more than thirty six Mamanuca and Yasawa islands. Our itinerary is selected from a choice of many remote, wilderness bays, palm fringed sandy beaches or reef-bound lagoon anchorages facing world class resorts. At every opportunity we will be under sail. Due to weather, sea and wind conditions which are constantly changing and the scarcity of secure, all-weather anchorages, your specific itinerary will be revealed as we discover where the wind blows us.
Tavake is based in the Port of Lautoka on the west coast of Viti Levu near the Nadi International Airport. Our charters begin and end at our base. The Mamanuca islands are a cluster of small islands located just offshore - about 12 miles - from our base on Viti Levu. The Yasawa island chain begins about 24 miles northwest of Tavake's base on Viti Levu and stretches for approximately 50 miles north. Subsequently the duration of a Mamanuca charter requires less number of days than a Yasawa charter. A Mamanuca charter requires 3 - 7 days. A Yasawa charter requires an initial day of about five to ten hours of open ocean sailing to get there (depending on whether your destination is in the southern or northern Yasawas) and a final day to return to base. Or, island hopping we can take two or three days to reach the northern Yasawas, and similarly two or three days to return. Subsequently we have a Southern or Northern Yasawa island option
